Election 2019 – information for the media

Haringey will host the General Election count on Thursday 12 December at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The main count will take place in East Quarter One with results declared in a nearby room to be confirmed.

Entry will be via the East Premium Entrances and the venue will be open to accredited media from 10pm. Verification will take place, followed by the count.

The stadium is well served by train and bus. Please check the TfL website (external link) to plan the best route on the day.

Limited parking will be available for those who have arranged this. We will need your car registration, your name and mobile number in advance so please contact Media and Campaigns Manager Laura Wileman ASAP at laura.wileman@haringey.gov.uk if a space is required. You will also need to bring identification with you on the night.

Access and Facilities

The venue will be open to accredited media from 10pm, access will be via the East Premium Entrances. A press area for accredited media only will be available.

Press area facilities will include password-enabled wi-fi; power sockets for laptops, and a television. If you have any other requirements, including any broadcasting or technical needs, please contact Laura Wileman to discuss.

The count will take place in East Quarter One. By law, no close-up filming or photography of the count or any ballot paper is allowed. Permission will therefore be needed to take photos in the count room and journalists and photographers wishing to access the count must be accompanied by a member of Haringey Council’s press office.

Refreshments can be purchased throughout the night. Please note, the stadium is cashless.

If you would like to attend the count at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

  • Please contact Media and Campaigns Manager Laura Wileman at laura.wileman@haringey.gov.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 10 December with your name and the name of your news organisation
  • On election night, you must bring personal media identification in the form of either a press card or a letter of verification from your editor/news organisation with you. Please also bring a signed copy of the accreditation letter that will be sent to you
  • On arrival at the venue, please register your attendance with a member of the communications team

Polling Stations

Filming and photography inside polling stations is not permitted by law.  Media can film or photograph outside polling stations but please show courtesy to those who do not wish to be filmed.
